Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has approved a budget of ₹1100 crore for the 2025-26 financial year, out of which ₹400 crore is allocated for city development. But the budget session saw serious protests by opposition parties, which resulted in an agitated debate in the house.

Mayor's statement on opposition protests

At a press conference, Ludhiana Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur referred to opposition leaders' concerns and said that their protests were politically motivated and baseless. She stressed the fact that the municipal corporation wants to work harmoniously for the development of the city but blamed opposition parties for unnecessary disruptions.

"Ludhiana's development is our priority, and we want to work together. Alas, opposition parties like to indulge in making noise instead of being a part of constructive dialogue," replied Mayor Inderjit Kaur.

Key announcements in the budget

  • 400 crore for the city development scheme, with areas of emphasis on infrastructure, roads, sanitation, and urban planning.
  • Description of municipal revenue streams, with officials going through possible areas to increase income.
  • Advertisement policy under development, in spite of opposition parties objecting to it, aimed at streamlining revenue generation.

Expansion of street lighting schemes to provide improved illumination in newly incorporated municipal areas.

Plans for the Future of Ludhiana

Mayor Inderjit Kaur promised citizens that all key problems, such as waste management, road repair, and public security, will be managed. She requested all party councilors to unite for the progress of Ludhiana, stating that citizens are now aware that political fights based on unnecessary reasons retard progress instead of stimulating it.

With this massive budgetary allocation, Ludhiana citizens can look forward to significant development in infrastructure and civic facilities in the next year. But only time will tell if political differences will affect the smooth implementation of these plans
