Income Tax Commissioner's father was beaten up by one of his neighbors in Ludhiana, Punjab. The person who had returned from Canada first pushed him in the street and then proceeded to batter him with an iron rod. The old man's turban also came off after falling on the ground. Injured Joginder Singh Bindra was taken to hospital severely injured. Joginder used to be a professor in an Engineering College and the accused, Kulbir was his student 40 years ago. The entire incident of assault was captured in CCTV camera. Model Town police station has registered a case and arrested the accused.
The reason behind the assault according to the vicim is that he had given Kulbir less marks. Kulbir had recently returned from Canada. Ever since his return he had been quarreling with Joginder Bindra over some issue or the other. Kulbir also continued to vandalize his house.
Joginder Bindra said that in 1980, he was the Head of Department (HOD) at Guru Nanak Engineering College. The attacker, Kulbir, had come to the college in 1981 for admission in B.Tech. He was very weak in studies along with a lackluster attendance record. In 1983, Kulbir's father bought a house near his house.
When Kulbir gave his exams in the final year, he managed to score very low. A board of teachers is formed to check the papers. There are 3 teachers from the college and 3 teachers from Chandigarh Engineering University. Marks are assigned only after proper assessment. Kulbir had got 50 percent marks despite his poor performance in the exam, according to Joginder.
Joginder informs that he has two sons. One son is Income Tax Commissioner in Kolkata, while the other son is Chief Engineer in Bathinda. He lives in Ludhiana with his wife. A few months ago, accused neighbor Kulbir had come to his house and vandalized his vehicles. Joginder had registered a complaint against the accused to the police regarding that incident. Since then Kulbir had been harboring a grudge against him.
Joginder informs that Kulbir and his father have also quarreled with him in the past due to his low marks. He suspects that Kulbir's low marks are still stuck in his mind, due to which he has done this to him. It has been 40 years since this happened, if Kulbir had a problem with this then he could have come home and talked to him, he says. The accused Kulbir is currently kept in custody as due to his involvement in criminal activity by the Model Town Police station’s personnel.
