A 13-year-old girl from Ludhiana reportedly ended her own life by hanging under suspicious circumstances. The deceased has been identified as Ritu Kumari (13), resident of Mundiya Kalan village, Ludhiana.
Ritu was found hanging from a dupatta. According to statements of the deceased’s mother recorded by the police, Ritu had just passed out from fifth grade and was to take admission into 6th grade. For this purpose, Ritu had gone to the Government School in Mundiya Kalan. However, Ritu did not have her Aadhar card at the time and was therefore not allowed admission. Agitated, Ritu decided to take her own life by tying a dupatta to the grill of the stairs and hanging herself.
As soon as this information was received, the police of Mundian Kalan outpost under Jamalpur police station reached the spot, took possession of the body and started investigating the case. Giving information in this regard, Mundian Kalan outpost incharge said that he had received information that the daughter of a migrant family living in a rented house in the colony of Mundian Kalan committed suicide by hanging a chunni (dupatta) on the Jagla built at her house.
The investigating officer said that no suicide note was recovered from the deceased. He said that it appears that the girl first went to the grill, tied her chunni and came down and hanged herself.
The rest of the police is investigating the matter in depth. He said that the body was taken into custody and sent to the government hospital for postmortem. Anything further can be said only after the post mortem report comes. He said that the police is investigating the matter in depth.
The mother of deceased Ritu told that she had three sons due to which she had adopted Ritu from her sister. She said that she wanted to educate Ritu to allow her to stand on her feet. But Ritu’s act of suicide caused the ground to slip from under her own feet, she said.
