The major problem of the city for the past many decades The Buddha Nala finally will be rejuvenated. On Sunday 22nd August Cabinet Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu along with Sukhbir Singh Sarkariya will release 200 cusec water from the Sirhind River. As a result, the blackness of the Buddha Nala's water will decrease. Ashu said that by releasing 200 cusec water the rejuvenation of the Buddha Nala will begin.
The State Government has started a Buddha Nala rejuvenation project worth 650 crores. The government aims to complete the project by December 2022. After the completion of the project, Buddha Nala will be completely cleaned. The release of industrial waste and sewage in the Buddha Nala will be banned. Currently, fencing is being done along the edges of the Buddha Nala to avoid people from littering the Dariya. The decisions were taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister of Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh in Chandigarh.
The main source of pollution in Buddha Nala was the discharge of waste from industries, dairies and some slums into a 47-km drain, of which 14 km passes through Ludhiana.

Cabinet Minister Ashu also said that a 225 MLD sewage treatment plant will be installed in Jamalpur whereas two 6 MLD Effulent treatment plant's will be installed in Haibowal and Tajpur Dairy complex. A 10 kilometres long Interceptor sewage line is also being laid out.
