Bollywood actor R. Madhavan and novelist Chetan Bhagat on Monday got into a Twitter spat, which ultimately proved out to be a “scripted” one as they were aiming to promote ‘Decoupled’– a Netflix series featuring both of them.

The spat started when Netflix asked its Twitter followers whether books are greater than movies or vice versa. Bhagat responded to the tweet, saying, “My books, and the movies based on them ❤️”. Madhavan, who didn’t seem to be impressed by Bhagat’s views, quoted his tweet, replying, “Hey Chetan…My bias is movies > books🙏❤️”

The spat escalated further once Bhagat, who has written various famous novels, hit back, saying, “Have you ever heard anyone ever say the movie is better than the book?”. To this, Madhavan had a brilliant answer, which left Twitterati in awe; “YES! 3 Idiots🤩🤩🤣🤣🙏”.

As the duo continued to take a dig at each other, people shared mixed reactions. Many took it seriously, thinking it’s getting into an ugly spat while others rightly predicted it as a “scripted spat”.

The confusion was over when Madhavan responded to one of the Twitter users, who termed the conversation scripted. “Hey if course it’s scripted .🤩🤩🤩😃😃😂.. @chetan_bhagat  is my bro… we are just doing the publicity drill. 😂😂😂❤️❤️🙏🙏,” he tweeted.

Both Madhavan and Bhagat acted in the recently-released Netflix series ‘Decoupled’. While Madhavan played the lead male role, Bhagat also made a few appearances in the series. The show is based on a couple who are on the verge of divorce.
