women among 13 Maoists in a gun battle in the deep forests of Paydi-Kotmi.
The 90-minute encounter started at 6 in the morning between the Maoists and the crack force of C-60 commandos. The encounter may have resulted in the injury of at least four to five rebels but they have managed to escape from the jungle.
An official spokesperson for the Anti-Naxal Operations (ANO) said that “Earlier this morning, a team of Maoists planned to come to the local village for its regular extortion purposes, therefore, a team of C-60 commandos was deployed to carry out an operation against them in the forests.”
Reportedly, the police team first asked the rebels to put down their guns and surrender but they started firing and the commandos replied.
