Jalandhar: In a major crackdown on illegal travel agents operating around the local Bus stand the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police on Saturday checked 25 offices of the travel agents and registered cases against three who were operating illegally.
Divulging the details, the Commissioner of Police Jalandhar Mr Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that the Police have received a tip off that a number of illegal travel agents were operating around the local Bus stand and were duping the people by showing them green pastures for going abroad.
He said that Police had vital information that several such travel agents have opened their shops on names of IELTS Training institutes, Ticketing agencies, Educational Consultancy Services and others. Mr Bhullar said that these fake travel agents used to dupe the innocent people by taking heavy amount of money from them on pretext of sending them abroad.
The Commissioner of Police said that in order to nail them joint teams of officers from Police and Civil administration were constituted to check these offices. He said that teams comprising Assistant Commissioners of Police Mr Dharam Pal, Mr Harsimrat Singh Chettra, Mr Ashok Kumar, Mr Sukhjinder Singh and Mr Kamaljeet Singh, Naib Tehsildars Mr Onkar Singh and Mr Lovedeep Singh conducted the checking at offices of 25 travel agents. Mr Bhullar said that out of these three were found operating illegally due to which Police has registered cases against them.
The Commissioner of Police said that cases under section 406/420/120-B of Indian Penal Code, 12 Passport Act 1967 and 13 Punjab Travel Professional Regulation Act 2014 has been registered against Mohit Minhas who was running Next Level IELTS Institute and against Satinderpal Singh Doordarshan Enclave Phase II who was running IELTS Guru IELTS Institute at Police Division Number 6.
He said that two mobile phones and Rs 54000 cash was recovered from Mohit whereas one mobile phone and Rs 1.28 lakh cash was recovered from Satinderpal Singh.
