On Wednesday, 11th September, Popular Bollywood actress Malaika Arora’s 65-year-old father, Anil Arora died by suicide. He jumped from the 6th floor of Ayesha Manor in Mumbai’s Bandra West area. Police quickly reached the spot and moved Anil to hospital where he was declared dead.
According to the sources quoted by newswires, Anil Mehta had made a phone call to Malaika and Amrita just a few moments before his suicide. He said “I’m sick and tired" on the phone call he made to his daughters.
For the unversed, Anil Mehta was Malaika Arora's stepfather who died by suicide. Malaika Arora's biological father is Anil Arora. Malaika Arora's biological father Anil Arora was a Punjabi who worked in the Indian Merchant Navy, while her mother, Joyce Polycarp, is a Malayali Christian. Malaika’s parents separated when she was 11 years old, after which she and her sister, Amrita Arora, lived with their mother in Chembur, Mumbai.
Joyce Arora, wife of Anil Mehta, revealed that in the morning she noticed that Anil’s slippers were in the living room which indicated that he was present there a few moments ago. She went to the balcony as Anil used to always go to the balcony and read the newspaper every morning. But when she went to the balcony, Anil was not present there. She looked down and saw the building watchman shouting for help. At that moment she realised Anil had jumped from the terrace.
Joyce said to the police that despite their divorce, she and Anil used to live together for the past few years. She also shared that Anil had knee pain problems but other than that he had no serious health issues. His death was a shock for his family.
After the tragic incident, on Wednesday night, Malaika requested her fans and media to give her some privacy during this tough time, on Instagram. She wrote, “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear father, Anil Mehta. He was a gentle soul, a devoted grandfather, a loving husband, and our best friend. Our family is in deep shock by this loss, and we kindly request privacy from the media and well-wishers during this difficult time. We appreciate your understanding, support, and respect. With gratitude, Joyce, Malaika, Amrita, Shakeel, Arhaan, Azaan, Rayyan, Casper, AXL, Duffy and Buddy.”
Actress Malaika’s father, Anil Arora was a Punjabi-Hindu. He was a retired Indian Merchant Navy. Malaika was 11 years old when Anil and Joyce got divorced. He was a private individual who liked to stay mostly out of the spotlight. The previous year, Anil was also admitted to Mumbai Hospital but the reason was not revealed. Malaika and her mother had visited him in the hospital.
