Mamata allots 41 per cent seats to women, drops 10 current MPs

With the political arena of the country heating up after the announcement of Election schedule by the Election Commission, West Bengal CM and TMC Chief Mamata Banerjee has announced the list of candidates who will contest for the upcoming polls from Bengal and what is the highlight of this announcement is that 10 of the current Members of Parliament have not been named in that list.

One more interesting highlight is that 41 per cent of the tickets have been allotted to female candidates including some prominent Bengal celebrities like Nusrat Jahan and Mimi Chakraborty.

With Sugato Bose, the eminent historian and Harvard University Professor opting out because of his prior responsibilities in Harvard, Bengali actress Mimi Chakraborty has been named in his place.

Another major announced candidates are Dipak Adhikari from Ghatal, Prasun Banerjee from Howrah, Satabdi Roy from Birbhum and Moon Moon Sen from Asansol.

Congress had also announced 15 candidates and is expected to announce more in the coming week.

Mamata Banerjee has lately projected her as a potential alternative centre of power and a face for the position of the Prime Minister. She showed her prowess in the recent CBI vs Kolkata Police row and garnered some political mileage as well according to sources.

Mamata Banerjee announced that TMC will also contest some seats from Bihar, Odhisha, Assam, Jharkhand and Andaman and Nicobar islands.
