Reportedly, the man is a construction worker and was returning from a liquor shop when he saw the snake. Then in aggression, he picked it up, wrapped snake around his neck and started to rode in that condition for a while.
After a short ride, man stops abruptly, takes the snake and starts biting it in bewilderment. Passer-bys' witnessed this unusual event in perplexed state of mind and some even captured the man in their mobile phones. By the time police arrived at the scene, the snake had died.
Lately, Karnataka police on Wednesday, detained the man for allegedly biting a snake to death, under the provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act in Kolar district's Mustur village. The remains of the reptile were recovered by the forest department officials and were sent to a lab for finding out its species.
Taking suo moto cognizance of the incident, the forest officials nabbed the accused, identified as Kumar and booked him under the provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act. On asking Mulbagal range forest officer KN Ravikeerthi, he said that the accused was still in an intoxicated condition.
Kumar's act is a non-bailable offence and he can be sentenced to three years in Jail, said forest official. He further informed that the snake that the accused bit was a rat snake and not a viper, however, earlier reports claimed that it belonged to a viper family.
