A 44-year-old man was held by the Anti Narcotic Cell (ANC), by Mumbai Police on Tuesday for supplying banned narcotic drugs such as Mephedrone worth Rs 1.10 crores.
Other names for the Mephedrone are MCAT, Meow Meow, and MD.
This drug which is a narcotic substance is legally manufactured in local kitchens laboratories. The drug gives drug cartels a profit margin of over 300 to 900 per cent per gram and sometimes even more.
On receiving information about the drug smuggling, the ANC officers of the Worli unit a trap was laid in South Mumbai locality of Tardeo on Tuesday evening. A person carrying a bag was found moving suspiciously at the said spot, his appearance matched with the details provided by the informant. Near the Vasantdada Patil garden, the suspect was caught.
The suspect’s bag was searched and contained a white crystalline powder-like substance suspected to be Mephedrone, officials said.
Drug testing portable kit was used to identify the drug. The ANC officials detected it to be Mephedrone.
The officials seized drugs, weighing 1.10500 kg, which is worth around Rs 1.10 crore.

Mohammed Abdul Gafar Shaikh, the accused was arrested by the ANC officials under various sections of the NDPS act.
The accused is now being interrogated for procuring the details of his supplier and clients.
