A major fire broke out in the main power grid located near Talwara in the industrial town of Mandi Gobindgarh in Khanna, Ludhiana, on Saturday. Flames were visible from several kilometres away. People in the vicinity were evacuated to safer places.
As per the information received, to control the fire, fire brigade vehicles were called from Mandi Gobindgarh as well as Khanna, Sirhind, and Ludhiana. The seriousness of the fire can be understood by the fact that fire brigades from two private companies also reached the spot. Several transformers were burned to ashes due to the fire in the grid.
Power supply to the industrial area has also been stopped for safety reasons. According to fire officer Jagjit Singh, it will take a few more hours to control the fire. Powercom officials said that only after the fire is controlled, the damaged equipment will be repaired, and the power supply will be restored. The cause of the fire is not yet known. Fortunately, there was no loss of life in this incident.
