On September 3, 2006, a group of friends from Manjummel Kochi, Kerala went to explore the caves as one among them named Subhash fell into the hole. Later he was rescued by huge efforts, mainly by his friend Siju David and locals with the support of police. Subhash went to the Guna Caves (Guna Caves 2006 incident, Guna cave incident 2006) along with his 9 friends. While exploring the cave, Subash accidentally slipped down, leaving the rest of the group perplexed about what to do. They attempted to call Subash, but there was no response. Some of them rushed to the nearest police station for help but were reprimanded for entering restricted areas without permission. After much pleading, one police officer accompanied the group. Upon reaching the spot, the police officer understood the gravity of the situation and requested additional personnel. By this time, Subhash had started responding to the calls of his friends. According to official statistics, thirteen tourists have vanished into the cave, while folklore suggests fifty accidental and suicide deaths.

Manjummel Boys real Subhash; Where is he now?

As per reports, Real-life Subhash hails from Manjummal in Ernakulam district of Kerala. He is an employee of a fabrication unit and had gone to Guna Caves (Guna Caves 2006 incident) with nine friends. He fell into the cave while crossing a crevice. He was brought out in a nail-biting, gut-wrenching rescue by his friend Siju David, unknown to the world away from the forests. 

A fan on social media shared Subhas's pic from the movie and wrote, "In real life,Subhash got stuck in that rock just because of the belt he borrowed from his friend. That sequence was later discarded from the movie script due to the difficulty in shooting that scene."

However, the film-maker Chidambaram in a media interaction stated that the belt was crucial to Subhash's survival as it got him stuck somewhere at 180 ft in the pit and stopped him from falling to a certain death. "The belt hooked him to something, that's why he didn't slip further down. In real life, the brothers had fought over Subhash's decision to take the belt to Kodaikanal. If not for it, his life couldn't be saved."
