Airlines in the US cancelled over 1800 flights on Wednesday after an ice storm devastated the entire stretch beginning from Texas to Virginia. Precisely 1897 flights cumulatively within, out of or coming into the United States were cancelled. As per the flight tracking website FlightAware over 750 flights were delayed as of 8:41 ET.
"This week's winter storm is having an impact on our operations, accounting for a significant number of cancellations," American Airlines Group Inc (AAL.O) said in a statement, adding that it proactively cancelled flights and notified passengers.
While on the other hand, The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on Tuesday warned in a tweet that travellers might expect to see some snowy conditions in certain areas including Dallas, Fort Worth and Memphis, which could delay certain flights.
The major stakeholders are on their toes releasing guidelines and safety measures amidst the prevailing tough conditions, the US National Weather Service said in its Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area forecast discussion said, "The ongoing winter storm will continue to bring hazardous impacts to North and Central Texas through at least early Thursday morning."
The lifestyle has adversely taken a hit in the US, people from the affected regions are sharing videos and photos, which shows how tough are things for people out there:

Fort Worth, Texas-based American Airlines led the chart of cancellations with near about 800 flights, while the low-cost carrier Southwest Airlines Co (LUV.N) followed by cancelling 501 flights.
The latter, however, did not address the media’s queries. The latest spree of cancellations came nearly a month after Southwest faced the government’s backlash over cancelling 16,700 flights owing to the holidays as the bad weather overwhelmed its crew scheduling system.
