Sunil Jakhar, Former Punjab Congress Chief has put shocking allegations against Congress leader. In September 2021, Captain Amarinder Singh resigned from Punjab’s CM position due to internal party conflicts. At that time, there were speculations that who will be appointed as the new CM.

Sunil Jakhar disclosed that the party conducted voting to select the new CM. Total 79 votes were there, out of which he had 42 votes in his favour and Channi got only 2 votes. 16 votes were in favour of Sukhjinder Randhawa, 12 votes were given to Captain's wife Maharani Preneet Kaur by the party MLAs. Navjot Singh Sidhu got only 6 votes.

“I got maximum votes to become Punjab’s CM after Captain despite this Channi was appointed,” said Sunil Jakhar.

After not being able to become CM, I was also offered the post of Deputy CM by the High Command,” he added.

However, at the last moment, Congress leader Ambika Soni said that Punjab is a Sikh state and the CM should be a Sikh face. Sunil Jakhar is a Hindu, so Congress changed the decision at the last minute. Randhawa also stated that he was offered the CM’s chair but due to some reasons it was not possible at that time.
