Paris Olympics bronze medalists Manu Bhaker & Sarabjot Singh students of THIS University in Chandigarh

Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh on Tuesday won a bronze medal in the 10m Air Pistol mixed team event at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh on Tuesday made India proud as they won a bronze medal in the 10m Air Pistol mixed team event at the Paris Olympics. Before this, Manu Bhaker won bronze in the women's event. This made Manu Bhaker the first Indian woman to win two medals in the same Olympics. Not only this, Many Bhaker is also the first Indian woman to win a medal in shooting. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded both Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh on social media. Not only this, PM Modi had a telephonic conversation with both the athletes. Interestingly, Manu Bhaker & Sarabjot Singh are students of the same university. Now, the question arises which University did Manu Bhaker & Sarabjot Singh study?

The answer is Panjab University in Chandigarh. Panjab University which is in Chandigarh took to its official X handle and wrote, "PU celebrates as 2 of its students Manu Bhakar and Sarabjot Singh won a medal at Olympic Games Paris 2024 by clinching bronze in 10m air pistol mixed event. Prof. Renu Vig, VC, PU congratulated Manu Bhakar & Sarabjot Singh & their family on their remarkable achievement."

Before this, Manu Bhaker won bronze in the women's event. This made Manu Bhaker the first Indian woman to win two medals in the same Olympics. Who are Sarabjot Singh & Manu Bhaker?

Sarabjot Singh hails from Dheen village of Ambala’s Barara block. Sarabjot Singh, 22, is the son of  Jatinder Singh, a farmer, and Hardeep Kaur, a homemaker. Sarabjot Singh reportedly did his studies at DAV College, Sector 10, Chandigarh. He is also a student of Panjab University, Chandigarh. Sarabjot Singh reportedly got training under coach Abhishek Rana, Ambala Cantt-based AR Shooting Academy in Central Phoenix Club. 

Talking about Manu Bhaker, she was born in Jhajjar, Haryana, a state known for its boxers and wrestlers. Manu Bhaker took to sports like tennis, skating, and boxing in school. She also participated in a form of martial arts called ‘thang ta’, winning medals at the national level. Manu Bhaker's father Ram Kishan Bhaker is professionally a chief engineer in the Merchant Navy. Until the age of 14, Manu excelled in other sports like Huyen langlon, a Manipuri martial art, as well as boxing, tennis, and skating, winning medals at the national games in these events.
