After scripting history, the India men’s hockey team would return to their home on August 9, 2021. They would land in Delhi and would meet President Ram Nath Kovind. Their next stoppage would be Ramdass Airport, Amritsar. The team would land on August 10 and would be heartily welcomed by the government.
All 11 players would also come to the hometown of the skipper of the hockey team – Manpreet Singh. They would reach Jalandhar on August 10, 2021.
Villages in Punjab have erupted with dhol and crackers since the victory of team India. Skipper Manpreet Singh’s mother, with teary eyes, said, “Over 12 years of his hard work has paid off today. I had told him to bring gold but I am happy that our team got a medal. My happiness has no limit today. When they lost in the semi-final my health deteriorated but I could muster the courage today to watch the match and see them win.

“Manpreet called me after the win but he could not speak much as he turned emotional. When the team was behind at the start, I was quite scared, but I did not stop watching as I had faith in them,” she added.
She also said that she would hold the Akhand path to celebrate India’s sensational victory. She said, “I will hold ‘Akhand path’ now. We will celebrate this historic win. I have no words to express my happiness.”
On Thursday, the India men’s hockey team defeated Germany 5-4 in a bronze medal match and ended the 41-year-old wait for an Olympics medal in hockey. The last time, when India won the medal in hockey at Olympics was at Moscow Games in 1984, where they earned a Gold medal.
