One of the biggest tech giants of the world Microsoft has also decided to join the layoff spree that is going on after the global economic slowdown. Reportedly Microsoft is likely to fire around 11,000 employees which in total amounts to 5% of their overall workforce. Microsoft has a total of 2,21,000 employees out of which 99, 000 are employed internationally while the rest are appointed in the US.
As per the latest reports released by a UK-based news channel, Microsoft has decided to cut jobs of 5% workforce i.e. 10,000-11,000 employees in the month of January. The company is yet to release a statement on the same. If the layoff takes place then the HR department along with the Engineering department will be the most affected due to the job cut.
On being asked about the major layoff, a Microsoft spokesperson released a statement saying that he would not comment on anything that is referred to as a ‘rumor.’ Despite these statements, there are reports surfacing all over that the techy will be officially announcing the job cut-in anytime soon. In October 2022, Microsoft laid off around 1,000 employees in the company which impacted around 1% of the total hired workforce.
Reportedly, around 30,000 employees have lost their jobs till now due to the mass layoff going on various well-established companies. The number of workers laid off is almost twice what were fired in the entire month of December 2022. As per Layoff Tracker, 30 companies have fired around 30,620 employees in the first week of January.
Microsoft has come into the layoff spree days after Amazon announced to fire 18,000 employees due to global economic slowdown. The announcement came from Andy Jassy, CEO Amazon after information about the same was leaked from one of the employees.
