'Milkha Singh 2.0': Jalandhar's Gurindervir Singh breaks 100m National Record, misses Usain Bolt's record by microsecond

Jalandhar sprinter Gurindervir Singh's remarkable achievement places him merely 0.62 microseconds behind the legendary Usain Bolt's world record of 9.58 seconds, set in 2009.

In a proud moment for Jalandhar, sprinter Gurindervir Singh on Friday set a new national record in the 100-meter sprint, completing the race in just 10.20 seconds at the first India Grand Prix in Bengaluru. The Indian Grand Prix organized by the Athletics Federation of India in Bengaluru took place on Friday. Jalandhar sprinter Gurindervir Singh's remarkable achievement places him merely 0.62 microseconds behind the legendary Usain Bolt's world record of 9.58 seconds, set in 2009.

Following his remarkable achievement, social media went into a frenzy and even called Gurindervir Singh- 'Milkha Singh 2.0'. 24-year-old Gurindervir competed for Reliance and broke the previous national record of 10.23 seconds that was held by Manikanta Hoblidhar. 

In this remarkable event, Services' athlete Manikanta Hoblidhar secured the silver medal with his personal best of 10.22 seconds. Assam's Imlan Borgohain clinched the bronze with a timing of 10.43 seconds, although his previous record stood at 10.25 seconds.

The event was a significant moment for Indian athletics as three national record holders competed together, pushing each other to new heights. Gurinderveer is currently training under coach James Hillier in Mumbai. His personal coach, Sarabjit Singh Happy, received congratulations from notable sports personalities including Athletics Federation of India President Olympian SSP Bahadur Singh Saggu, Punjab Association President SP Satbir Singh Atwal, Director of Sports Harpreet Singh Soodan, Deputy Director Ranbir Bhangu, PIS Director Jeevanjot Teja, and District Sports Officer Gurpreet Singh.
