In a recent development, it is learned that former IG and MLA Kanwar Vijay Partap Singh has written a letter to CM  Bhagwant Mann over the government’s sluggish attitude towards Behal Kalan and Kotkapura firing case. This letter poses the question on the newly elected AAP government in Punjab.

He writes that several petitions are pending in the Punjab and Haryana High Court and Supreme Court of India. A copy of his letter is also sent to the  Speaker of the Punjab assembly, the chief of Punjab AAP Jarnail Singh, and the home secretary of Punjab. He writes in his letter that he got to know from a newspaper that the government is not paying proper heed to these cases and writ petitions. It is worth mentioning that fed by the behavior of the then government and in the view of the ongoing nexus of the ruling party, he resigned on 9 April 2021.

According to him, accused persons are trying to get the Behaal Kalan investigation and ongoing trial process in the Faridkot sessions Court quashed and get themselves acquitted without facing trial. He also pointed out the apparent intent and manner of the accused persons. He writes that in a case, where the process of trial is going on in a Learned Court of Sessions, the accused persons preferred civil litigation which reflects their intent.

He also alleged that after his resignation, the SIT formed by the then Punjab government did nothing to conclude these cases and writ petitions. Therefore it is requested that the Punjab government should take a firm stand against the writs and proceed with the hearing in the Faridkot Sessions Court
