Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Bharat Biotech facility at genome valley in Hyderabad on Saturday as a part of his three-city tour to review the vaccine development work and the efforts being put for its progress. He said the pharma firm is closely working with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to create an indigenous Covid vaccine.
He spent an hour at Bharat Biotech interacting with top officers of the company including chairman and managing director Dr Krishna Ella and with the scientists working on the vaccine development. He also congratulated them for the progress they made in the trials so far.
The Prime Minister met with the company officials in a conference hall and deliberated on the progress made in bringing out a vaccine.
“At the Bharat Biotech facility in Hyderabad was briefed about their indigenous COVID-19 vaccine. Congratulated the scientists for their progress in the trials so far. Their team is closely working with ICMR to facilitate speedy progress,” Modi tweeted after he completed his tour of Bharat Biotech.
Later, he also had a brief interaction with a few employees before leaving the centre.

Covaxin's phase three trials kicked off this month at 26 locations across the country involving over 26,000 volunteers.
Modi is on a tour of three cities, Ahmedabad, Pune and Hyderabad, on Saturday to check on the Covid vaccine progress. Before Hyderabad, Modi visited the Zydus Cadila pharma in Ahmedabad and will next visit Pune’s Serum institute which is developing the Oxford-Astrazeneca vaccine.
