Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday had a virtual meeting with three teams working on the development and manufacture of vaccines against Covid-19 and discussed the potential of various platforms for vaccine development. These teams were from Gennova Biopharmaceuticals Ltd at Pune, and Biological E Ltd and Dr Reddy's Laboratories Ltd at Hyderabad.
The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) statement said on Monday that potential vaccine candidates from these companies are in various stages of trials. Data and results from the trials are expected from early next year onwards.
"The potential of various platforms for vaccine development was also discussed," the statement said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also appreciated the hard work done by the scientists in these companies to come up with a vaccine against Covid-19.
PM Modi has also asked the companies to come out with their suggestions and ideas regarding the regulatory processes and related matters. He advised them to make some extra efforts to inform the general public in simple language about the vaccine and related matters such as its efficacy and how it works.
Matters relating to logistics, transport and cold chains in respect of delivery of the vaccines were also discussed.

The PM has instructed all the concerning departments to engage with the manufacturers and seek to resolve matters so that the efforts of these companies bear to serve the needs of the country and the entire world.
On Saturday, the PM went on a 3-city trip to look into the vaccine development work and their progress. He started with pharma major Zydus Cadila’s plant in Gujarat, Maharashtra (Pune’s Serum Institute of India - SII, and ended the vaccine tour with Hyderabad’s Bharat Biotech in Telangana where these pharmaceutical companies are developing a vaccine against Covid1-9.
