Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on Punjab tour for the second consecutive day today. First, he will hold a rally in Batala at 4:30 pm in favor of BJP candidate Dinesh Babbu from Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat. After this, at 5.30 pm, the PM will join the rally in support of Jalandhar candidate Sushil Kumar Rinku and appeal for votes.
Before PM Modi's arrival, farmers started marching towards the rally venue in Gurdaspur but were stopped by the police. Apart from this, some farmer leaders in Jalandhar have been put under house arrest by the police.
Narendra Modi will arrive in Gurdaspur by helicopter after completing the election meeting in Mandi, Himachal at 3.30 pm. A pandal has been decorated in 6 acres to welcome him. Being a border district, Border Security Force and the airbase in Pathankot have been kept on alert, along with paramilitary and police forces in Gurdaspur and Dinanagar.
More than 4 thousand policemen deployed in Jalandhar
After addressing the rally in Batala, PM will reach PAP ground in Jalandhar by helicopter. About 4 thousand policemen have been deployed here for PM’s security of the PM. The entire city has been declared a no flying zone. Section 144 has been implemented in the district.
In view of the announcement of farmers' protest, the police have placed under house arrest Kulwinder Singh Machyana, district head of Kisan Union Ekta Sidhupur in Jalandhar and Amrik Singh, leader of Bharatiya Kisan Union Kadian in Bhar Singh Pura village of Phillaur. The police had reached the houses of both the leaders in the morning. About 25 farmer leaders have been placed under house arrest in Jalandhar.

Village Bhar Singh Pura is also very important for the police from security point of view. This is one of the most famous villages of Punjab. Because terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was killed in Canada, was a resident of this village. Due to which the police have deployed police personnel to put Amrik Singh under house arrest.
In Punjab, Akali Dal and BJP used to contest elections together. This time BJP is contesting the elections solo. Gurdaspur seat was previously BJP’s. However, there is now a lot of resentment among the people due to the absence of Sunny Deol after becoming MP.
