Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday evening visited the Serum Institute of India (SII) in Pune, which is one of the major pharmaceutical company currently working on developing the much-anticipated Covid-19 vaccine. The firm has partnered with Oxford-AstraZeneca is developing Covishield vaccine, is undergoing its Phase III trials in the country.
The Prime Minister took a tour around the plant premises and was given details about the vaccine progress. He was accompanied by senior officials of the company, who explained the details of the vaccine manufacturing process.
"Had a good interaction with the team at Serum Institute of India. They shared details about their progress so far on how they plan to further ramp up vaccine manufacturing. Also took a look at their manufacturing facility," Modi tweeted after his visit and shared pictures.
The Prime Minister went on a flying visit to three cities on Saturday to review the progress of the vaccines being developed in the country. As everyone waits to get immunity against coronavirus, Modi’s visit has been a great development for the country.
Earlier in the day, he had visited the Bharat Biotech facility in Hyderabad, preceded by a trip to the Zydus Biotech Park in Ahmedabad.
Modi will fly back to Delhi later in the evening.
On November 24, Prime Minister had held a virtual meeting with Chief Ministers of various states over the worsening situation of the pandemic in their states and directed the states to establish cold storage facilities for COVID-19 vaccine beforehand. All the states have been asked to prepare and send a plan for its distribution to the Central government.
