Within hours of his appointment as one of the advisor by PPCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, former DGP Mohd Mustafa declined to take up the offer saying that he has no role to play in politics.
Mustafa, whose wife Razia Sultana is a minister in Chief Minister Amarinder Singh’s Cabinet and was earlier considered close to the Captain Amarinder Singh, said he thanked Navjot Singh Sidhu for the offer. At least there is one man in the Congress who thought of me in the last four and half years.
“It is a very touching gesture. Tears welled up in my eyes when I learnt about the appointment. But I have declined the offer as I am not cut out for political posts”, he said
He added, “I got to know about the offer through the media and some people in my contact. Without giving much of a thought, I said no to offer with all humility at my command. I have also informed about this to people in Delh”.
The former DGP, however, said that he will keep working for the betterment of the Congress. He said that his services are at Sidhu’s disposal and it is his dream to see his as next CM of Punjab.
Mohd Mustafa also said that he is quite confident that with Sidhu managing the party affairs and working to fulfill party’s pre-poll promises, the Congress will come back to power in 2022.
Meanwhile, as Mohd Mustafa is considered to be a part of Sidhu’s camp, his refusal to accept the advisor role has surprised many in political circles.
