M Mukesh Sexual Harassment Case: Malayalam film industry Mollywood has been jolted with MeToo allegations and multiple senior actors have been accused of sexually assaulting young female as well as male actors. On Tuesday, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) formally arrested actor and Kollam MLA M Mukesh in connection with a sexual harassment case. However, what raised everyone's eyebrows when M Mukesh was released on bail shortly after the arrest was registered. A team led by AIG G Poonkuzhali interrogated him at the Coastal Police Headquarters in Ernakulam on Tuesday. The CPIM MLA Mukesh was previously granted anticipatory bail by the Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court., with the condition that he "appear before the investigating officer at 9 am on any day and remain as long as required for completing procedural formalities related to the investigation." What are the allegations against Mukesh?
Mukesh Sexual Harassment Case first came to the fore when a case was registered with the Maradu Police in Kochi. A woman in her complaint alleged that Mukesh forcefully entered into her hotel room and misbehaved with her. Not only this, but another female colleague also filed a complaint against him in Wadakkancherry.
A report suggests that in 2009, a woman alleged that she was sexually assaulted by seven individuals, including Mukesh, fellow actor Maniyanpilla Raju, and Adv. V.S. Chandrasekharan. Another woman had come forward 13 years ago, alleging that Mukesh had misbehaved with her while staying at the Nakshatra Hotel in Vadakkenchery during the filming of a movie.
For the unversed, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising senior women police officers is conducting a preliminary inquiry into sexual harassment allegations against several Malayalam cinema actors.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Kerala backed MLA M Mukesh and clarified that he does not need to resign from his position as a legislator simply because a rape case has been filed against him.
