Among the widely-used social media messaging apps, WhatsApp is all set to charge you money. Yes! you heard it right. WhatsApp Free Services are all set to be scraped for its chat backup feature. WhatsApp is generally used for charging, and the brilliant part is users can keep their chat backups in their Google Drives apart from the standard WhatsApp 10 GB storage. Notably, the WhatsApp Chat backup charging decision has not been taken by the social media app but by Google. Until now, WhatsApp chat backup files, which usually are under the 10GB mark for most, did not count against your 15GB free Google account storage. Google is, however, changing that next month.
WhatsApp chat backups will count against your free Google Drive storage, which will also include your emails, Drive files, and Google Photos media. As per reports, depending upon the size of your chat backup, Google will charge you money. As of now, reports suggest that Google will charge at least Rs 130 per month for the lowest plan which will give 15GB to 100GB. That should be plenty for most users’ WhatsApp chat backups and other Google files and media.
Another way to save your money from WhatsApp chat backup is to not use WhatsApp chat backups at all. However, if you change your phone you have to start WhatsApp from scratch.
It is expected that Google will start charging for WhatsApp Chat backup fees starting from February 2024. Notably, if you don't want to pay the WhatsApp Chat backup fee, then you can simply unwanted photos, videos, audio, and files from your WhatsApp and Google Drive.
