After Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led BJP government in Madhya Pradesh is now contemplating to bring a law against 'love-jihad.' The information revealed by MP Home Minister Narottam Mishra stated charges in cases of 'love jihad' in the state would be non-bailable.
While speaking to reporters, Mr Mishra on Tuesday said, "We are making preparations to introduce Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Bill, 2020 in Assembly. It will provide for 5 years of rigorous imprisonment. We're also proposing that such crimes be declared a cognizable and non-bailable offense."
He further revealed that in the upcoming assembly session, the MP govt will bring a secular law to check the problem of 'love jihad.'
Notably, Himachal Pradesh has already brought anti-love-jihad law in the state while Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, and Haryana are also mulling the same.
Narottam Mishra further added that even those who would assist others in doing 'love jihad" will also be held guilty under the new law and be punished accordingly. Apart from this, those who force the conversion of religion after an interfaith marriage would also be held guilty under the new law.
Nevertheless, if a person voluntarily wants to convert the religion he would have to apply one month in advance at the Collector's office to register the request.
