Zakiur Rahman Lakhvi - the mastermind behind 26/11 Mumbai terror attack has been convicted by Lahore anti-terrorism court for 15 years in prison on terror financing charges.
Earlier on Thursday, an anti-terrorism court in Pakistan issued an arrest warrant for outlawed Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) chief Masood Azhar on the charges of terror financing. Zakiur Rahman Lakhvi was also arrested on related charges and on Friday he was jailed to 15 years of confinement.
Pakistan on January 2, had stated that Mumbai attack mastermind and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operations commander Lakhvi has been caught in Lahore on terror financing charges.
A UN proscribed terrorist, Zakiur Rahman Lakhvi was on bail since 2015 in the Mumbai attack case and was held by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab province in January after international pressure started increasing on Pakistan to bring the free-roaming terrorist under trial and provide justice to the attack victims.
The UN Security Council’s 1267 Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee had recently allowed for a monthly payment of Pakistani Rupee 1.5 lakh for Lakhvi to meet his expenses.
Lashkar-e-Taiba, managed by Jamat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed, has been found guilty for carrying out the 2008 Mumbai attack, which killed 166 people, including six Americans counted amongst one such terrible attacks in Indian history.

The global terror financing watchdog Financial Action Task Force (FATF) is instrumental in pushing Pakistan to take actions upon terrorists roaming freely in Pakistan and using its territory to carry out attacks in India and elsewhere.
