Mumbai Police to continue a parallel probe into Sushant Singh Rajput case despite CBI probe

The Supreme Court of India on  Wednesday made the CBI as a sole agency to investigate the case of Sushant Singh Rajput. Justice Hrishikesh Roy said the CBI will be competent to probe not only Patna FIR but any other FIR in connection with the case.

The top court noted that the Mumbai Police has registered only an accidental death report in connection with Rajput's death, therefore it have limited investigation powers, whereas the case registered by Bihar Police is a full-fledged FIR which has been already referred to CBI.

Still, Justice Hrishikesh Roy said the CBI will be competent to probe not only Patna FIR but any other FIR in connection with the case.

However, going by the reports of Etimes, the Mumbai Police will be doing a parallel investigation in the case. However, the Supreme Court has already asked the Mumbai Police to submit all the documents and reports to the CBI, the Maharashtra government has assured that its police will cooperate with the CBI.

Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh told to Times Now, "We welcome the judgement of the Supreme Court and we will provide whatever cooperation is needed by the CBI. It is a matter of pride for the Mumbai Police that the Supreme Court observed there is no fault in their investigation."
