India’s first Covid self kit “CoviSelf” has been rolled out by the biotechnology company Mylab Discovery Solutions.
The kit has been designed as the mid-nasal swab test, it shows the test result within 15 minutes. It was launched on Thursday and priced at Rs 250.
The self-kit was approved by the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) last month.
The self-kit would be distributed to nearly 95 per cent of PIN codes of the country. The indigenous kit would be available on the e-commerce platform Flipkart and pharmacies and drugstores across the country.

The company is also planning to make the kit available on the government e-marketplace (GEM).
Hasmukh Rawak, Managing Director of Mylab Discovery Solutions, “Self-testing should slow down the spread of Covid-19 significantly. We aim to make CoviSelf available across the length and breadth of the country, especially for the people residing in the rural area who have limited options for testing.”
The product is expected to be available in the retail market in 2-3 days.
The company claims that CoviSelf offers a comfortable, easy-to-use, and accurate alternative to the current RT-PCR test method. The kit can be used by an individual with or without Covid symptoms. Each unit of the self kit contains a testing kit, instructions to use (IFU) leaflet, and a bag to safely dispose of the kit after testing.
