The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Monday, has arrested Gurpreet Singh, executive engineer, Punjab Urban Development Authority (PUDA), Amritsar, red handed while he was demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above said accused has been arrested on a complaint lodged by Gurdarshan Singh from Amritsar. He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the said PUDA XEN has been demanding 20,000 from him in lieu of disposing his pending application pertaining to booth no. 3 of PUDA, near Darbar Sahib, Amritsar which was alloted to him in the year 2016. He added that the said XEN has threatened him to cancel the allotment due to the pending formalities if he failed to pay the bribe money of 20,000 to him.
The spokesperson informed that after preliminary investigation of this complaint, a VB team from Amritsar range laid a trap and apprehended the above said XEN while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Amritsar range and further investigation was under progress.
