Filmmaker Nag Ashwin recently revealed that while creating his science fiction drama Kalki 2898 AD, he drew inspiration from two Hollywood productions. Kalki 2898 AD is still a box-office hit. But it wasn't Harry Potter.
We watched Marvel movies. growing up Ashwin revealed this in a recent interview with Zoom. Guardians of the Galaxy had a bigger influence on Prabhas character than Iron Man, in my opinion. Star Wars has undoubtedly had a significant impact. My aesthetic is subtly influenced by my love of Star Wars.
Denouncing that Lord Voldemort, the main antagonist of Harry Potter, served as an inspiration for Kamal Haasan's character Ashwin, Our references were these old Tibetan monks, who are supposed to be 120–130 years old. Oscar Wilde's philosophical novel The Picture of Dorian Gray, published in 1890, is the source of the portrait that Sir (Kamal Haasan) frequently brought up. Sir was motivated by that. For that vintage look, there weren't many movie references.
The director did, however, divulge some trivia regarding Kalki in 2898 AD. The popular Harry Potter character Sirius Black, portrayed by Gary Oldman in the films, is the source of inspiration for Vinay Kumar's character Sirius, he said.
Kalki 2898 AD compared Denis Villeneuve's 2021 film Dune to it. Ashwin responded to this earlier in an interview with IndiaToday. Before the movie came out, I had never read Dune, and I think it was a really great book. Yes, I am a major fan of Star Wars. I must therefore have made some unintentional references, as Ashwin said.
Kalki 2898 AD is led by an ensemble cast, including actors Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan, among others. The film has earned over Rs. 507 crore in India and is also making waves internationally. Trade analyst Ramesh Bala shared on X, “#Kalki2898AD now blazes into the $16 million club #Prabhas #EpicBlockbusterKalki @PrathyangiraUS.”
