Cancer is the second reason for death globally, cancer is the uncontrolled growth of a group of cells in the body. In 2018, approximately 18 million cases were there globally, of which, 1.5 million were in India alone. In 2018, there were around 0.8 million cancer deaths in India against 9.5 million globally. By 2040, the number of new cases is estimated to be double in India.
Cancer is mostly fatal and the most common types of cancer found in men are lung, prostate, colorectal, stomach, and liver cancer and most common type of cancer found in women are breast, colorectal, lung, cervical, and thyroid cancer.
National Cancer Awareness Day 2021: Date
Every year, National Cancer Awareness Day is celebrated on November 7 across the country.

National Cancer Awareness Day 2021: History
For the first time, the day was celebrated in the year 2014, after the day was announced by then health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan in September 2014.
It's worth noting that National Cancer Awareness Day falls on the same day as the Nobel Laureate Madame Curie's birthday. Madame Curie was a scientist who discovered radium and polonium and made a significant contribution to the fight against cancer. She was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1867. Curie's Nobel Prize-winning achievement paved the way for the creation of nuclear energy radiation, which aided in cancer treatment.
