We need food for quenching our hunger quest and it is necessary for our survival. If we ever think about the provider of food that we eat, it will bring the image of farmers into our mind. Farmers are the backbone of our society. Because of them only we are able to live on the planet.

Why do we celebrate National Farmers Day?

To honour and acknowledge the contribution of farmers in our lives, we celebrate National Farmers Day on December 23 in India every year. National Farmers Day is also known as Kisan Diwas in Hindi. The day is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh (who briefly served the nation from 1979 to 1980).  He was the fifth Prime Minister of the independent country. He was also referred to as the 'champion of India's peasants' by historians and experts.

National Farmers Day Significance

Farming is a pure and sacred profession. A farmer spends his entire life in fields. He is a symbol of hard work and dignity. Over half a billion farmers are smallholders, most of whom are in developing countries, and who economically support almost two billion people.

Farmers contribute to the growth and development of every nation of the world. The condition of farmers in India is still not very good in spite of the introduction of new tools and technologies in the field of farming. To spread awareness about the importance of farmers and the agriculture sector in India, Kisan Diwas is celebrated every year.
