March 4 is observed as National
Safety Day in India. The main focus of the day is to generate awareness and
make people committed to the safety rules. This includes road safety, workplace
safety, the safety of human health, as well as the environment. The holiday was
initiated by National Safety Council to generate commitment in the employees to
work safely and follow all the safety principles.
The day
was commemorated for the first time in 1972, the same day as the foundation of
the National Safety Council. This day is celebrated every year with a different
theme. This year’s theme is ‘Nurture your minds – Develop safety culture’.
Working
safely at any place is important. We must follow the safety measures not only
for our security but for others as well. For this let us know some safety
measures that we can follow at our workplace to avoid any kind of accident:
Do
report the unsafe conditions if you see:
If you
witness any kind of unsafe conditions at your workplace, do report so that it
can be fixed on time. Avoiding small troubles can end up becoming a big one.
Wear
all the safety gears:
If you
are working on any construction site or a place that can cause you physical
damage, don’t forget to wear your safety gear. Wear your helmet, safety belts
and other required things.
Know
the emergency procedures:
Know
all the emergency procedures. The employees must be trained to tackle all
emergencies. They must know the basic emergency procedures to perform on time.
Stay
up-to-date regarding your surroundings:
You
must stay updated about your surroundings. Know what is happening around you.
If you face a dangerous situation you can escape easily from it.
Keep
your workplace clean:
Always
keep your workplace clean. Do your work in a sorted manner. If you are working
on any electronic device maintain the cleanliness there. Keep them dust-free,
check them from time to time to avoid any accidents.
