The strife in Punjab Congress is yet to be resolved in order to accommodate Navjot Singh Sidhu in the state unit however, amidst all this the cricketer-turned-politician has opened another camp against the Income Tax Department.
Navjot Sidhu has now moved to Punjab and Haryana High Court challenging the Income Tax Joint Commissioner, Amritsar’s denial to revise his return. As of now, the High Court has adjourned the matter till July 27 without issuing any notice.
It is to be reiterated here, in the year 2016-2017, while filing his income tax return Sidhu had shown income of INR 9, 66, 28, 470 against the finance department’s record of INR 13, 19, 66, 530. Notably, he had filed his return on 19 October 2016.
However, on March 13, 2019, the Income Tax Department
added INR3, 53, 38, 67 to his income of the given year.

Agitated of the fact, Sidhu had asked the Income Tax Commissioner to revise his annual income as wrong assessment was done for the FY2016-2017.
However, on March 27 of 2021, the Joint Commissioner has rejected Sidhu’s request to carry out a revision.
In his petition, Sidhu has said that the Income Tax Commissioner has rejected his revision on very frivolous grounds, completely ignoring the facts which insisted him to move the High Court to quash the decision of the Income Tax Commissioner.
