In a massive development, the Government of India Thursday informed the Supreme Court that the NTA will scarp the grace marks given to 1,563 NEET-UG 2024 candidates. Not only this, the Centre also informed that NTA will take a re-exam of 1,563 NEET-UG 2024 candidates who were given grace marks. Notably, thousands of students in India along with multiple well-renowned teachers had flagged NEET Results 2024 as fraud. There were many controversies related to NEET Results 2024. Some alleged that the paper was leaked before exams, and some well-renowned YouTubers & teachers pointed out mistakes in the marking system as no one can score 718 or 719 out of 720 in NEET exams, and the rest pointed out how NEET 2024 secured 67 toppers. The increase in toppers sent fear among students that despite scoring well they may not get AIIMS.
Notably, NTA had addressed all the reports saying that they gave grace marks due to time loss at certain examination centers and hence such numbers came. However, NTA denied any kind of malpractice or corruption in the NEET 2024 Results. Still, students' furor continued on social media as well as on the ground.
Alakh Pandey, petitioner and CEO of Physics Wallah was quoted saying, "Today, NTA accepted in front of the Supreme Court that the grace marks given to the students were wrong and they agree that this created dissatisfaction among the students and they agreed that they will remove the grace marks...Re-examination of those 1,563 students who got grace marks will be done on 23rd June or the original score without grace marks would be accepted by the students.
NTA agreed in front of the SC that the grace marks they awarded were wrong. The question is if NTA has other discrepancies that we are unaware of. So, there is a trust issue with NTA...The issue of paper leak is open and hearing on that will continue..."
Therefore, 1563 NEET-UG 2024 candidates will have to take exams on June 23rd. It is pertinent to mention here that if those students do not wish to take the re-test, their scores based on the exam held on May 5 will be taken into account.
Advocate Kanu Agarwal, representing the Union Government, informed a vacation bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta, that the decision was taken by the panel constituted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on June 12 to "allay the fears of the students". Agarwal stated that the panel was of the view that the award of compensatory marks to 1563 students on the grounds of loss of time resulted in a "skewed situation" because the grace marks had to be limited only to the unattempted questions. After examining all aspects, the committee concluded that it would be appropriate to recommend the cancellation of the scorecards of the 1563 students and that they will be informed of their actual marks (without grace marks).
What is the NEET Results 2024 Scam?
CEO and Founder of Motion Education, NV Sir took to his official X handle and shared his video flagging the alleged NEET 2024 Result Scam. NV Sir in his video said, "There are some shortcomings in the NEET Results because some students have scored 718 or 719 out of 720. We have verified this from our side. It is not possible for a student to score 718 or 719 in NEET exams. For those who don't know, a student either can score 720/720 or if a student has left one question or has answered wrong then he or she will get 716/720 marks. If some students have got 718 or 719, then NTA should recheck the copies."
