In another dreadful incident of physical assault on doctors, a doctor in Meerut city of Uttar Pradesh was allegedly beaten up by his neighbours. The doctor identified as Prashant Bhatnagar works in the Community Medicine department of the Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College (LLRM) in Meerut.
As per reports, some of the doctor's neighbours beat him up and fractured his hand in the colony at Shastrinagar Sector 6 under Nauchandi Police Station limits.
The report states that the neighbours suspect that the doctor, who lives in the colony for the last seven years, may spread COVID-19 virus due to his job at the City Medical College. The doctor was regularly harassed over the issue since the lockdown came into effect on March 25.
Police have booked three persons based on the complaint of the victim's father. Earlier, some people also intruded into the doctor's home and pressurised him to vacate the rented house.
On Friday, some people put up a security guard's booth at the place where the doctor used to park his car. When he protested the move, the doctor was beaten up and his hand was fractured in the melee.
