The live reunion of ‘Love is Blind’ on Netflix was delayed, causing a furore among fans and viewers. Netflix sited technical difficulties and requested fans to be patient but to no avail. By 9:30 pm Netflix issued an apology to its viewers and admitted that the show was being recorded and would be posted very soon.

The only other live stream done by Netflix was when comedian Chris Rock’s stand up special ‘Selective Outrage’ was aired on March 4th. That particular show was streamed without incident and was seen as a great success. This was not the case on their second attempt. Fans took to twitter in order to vent their anger and frustration.

The show’s popularity came to light when comedians, journalists and even a member of congress tweeted about the delay. Comedian Desus Nice posted a meme that read, “NETFILX YOU WILL CRUMBLE!”. MSNBC host Chris Hayes wrote, ‘Would love to read the oral history of this event inside Netflix’. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made a reference to the series finale, in which a seamstress refitted a tuxedo one hour before a wedding to save the day. ‘Someone call Lucia the seamstress to fix this. I believe in her’ she wrote.

Following the public faux pas from Netflix, their streaming platform rivals Hulu and Peacock took open digs at them. Netflix has been experiencing a crisis of sorts recently, with multiple competitors making it to the market. As more options become available to viewers, other streaming sites have been cutting into Netflix’s profits. They have also taken some unpopular measures like limiting the number of profiles on a single account and increasing the charges for streaming services. In the wake of such unpopular moves and a disastrous showing in their second attempt at a live stream, the pressure is on them.
