Melissa McCarthy’s new movie Thunder Force, featuring her along with Octavia Spencer is an America Superhero Comedy Film. However, after release on April 9, 2021, wanna-be action-comedy film turns out to be tedious, and unfunny.

Released on Netflix, ‘Thunder Force’ features two middle-aged character actors, anticipated to beat up bad guys and fatphobia, at once. But, Thunder Force has missed this opportunity and is filled with pallid jokes and monotonous plot cliches. Netflix’s Thunder Forces co-sign with the restrictive beauty standards and power instead of questioning these.

Thunder Force - Release Date:

Thunder Force released on digital platform Netflix, on April 9, 2021. The trailer was released about a month ago. However, the film was assumed to be around superheroes and jokes, suddenly turned into a film that thinks its superheroes are jokes.

Thunder Force - Reviews:

Rotten Tomatoes have given a quite fair review of the film. Critics have been criticizing the film, saying, “It’s full of creaky jokes, baffling design choices, and sections that suffer from strangely poor production values. Even Melissa McCarthy and Octiva Spencer, usually excellent performers, feel off their game in roles that should be fun.”

Thunder Force, Cast:

Netflix’s new film Thunder Force despite having a spectacular cast couldn’t reach up to the expectations. Thunder Force has a huge crew, featuring Melissa McCarthy as Lydia Berman, and Octiva Spencer as Emily Stanton. The cast also includes Jason Bateman, Bobby Cannavale, and many others.

Thunder Force, Plot:

The movie takes place in a period where a global pseudoscience event has granted superpowers to many people on earth. All of these people are sociopaths, resulting in only supervillains on the planet.

In the film, Spencer is the child of two scientists who are murdered by one of these supervillains. She swears to avenge her parents by developing superpowers and save the planet. Best friend McCarthy is fun-loving who defends Spencer from bullies and tries to get her to loosen up a bit.

Spencer’s character accidentally imbues her best friend with incredible abilities and becomes the first superhero team.

What is so unsatisfactory about Thunder Force?

In general, the superhero genre features perfect bodies, and views glorify the same. The superheroes of the genre poured into tight costumes have become sex symbols. For superheroes, glamour is a virtue and an imperfect body is generally not so admired. These unrealistic yet believable superheroes are seen beating up villains who are fat, bald, dis-formed, and simply not so attractive.

But, “Thunder Force” was expected to break all these stereotypes and create an example. The film featuring, middle-aged actors, Melissa McCarthy, and Octiva Spencer were all set to fight villains and being funny.

Anyhow, the film does nothing as anticipated, instead co-signs with the restrictive body standards. The jokes are not funny, the plot is familiar and boring, and director Ben Falcone has missed opportunities.
