"He helped the owner for publicity": Netizens react after 'Baba Ka Dhaba' owner files police complaint against YouTuber Gaurav Wasan

2020 will be remembered for mostly the sorrow and grief it brought all around the world. However, there was an incident that forced the people of India to think and do positive and that incident was 'Baba ka Dhaba'. A YouTuber named Gaurav Wasan had shot the widely shared video of 'Baba' of Baba Ka Dhaba and his wife on October 7, which showed the couple talking about the lack of customers at the eatery in Malviya Nagar, following which several people donated money.

The video went so viral, that many Bollywood stars hailed the power of social media and appreciated Gaurav for his step to help Baba from Baba ka Dhaba. However, in a major turn of events, Kanta Prasad, popularly called the ‘Baba’ of the viral “Baba Ka Dhaba”  has alleged YouTuber Gaurav Wasan of misappropriation of funds that were raised to help the couple. 

Baba has told Delhi police that Wasan shot his video and posted it online and convinced the public on social media to donate money to the eatery owner. He also said that Wasan "intentionally and deliberately shared only his and his family/friends bank details and mobile numbers with the donors and collected huge amount of donation through different modes of payments i.e bank account/wallets without providing any information to the complainant".

As per reports, Wasan refuted all allegations and said he transferred all the money into Prasad’s account: "When I shot the video, I didn’t know it would become this big. I didn’t want people to harass Baba (Prasad) so I shared my bank details."

Wasan also shared three receipts of the transactions, all dated October 27 — two cheques of Rs 1,00,000 and Rs 2,33,000 and one receipt of bank payment of Rs 45,000. 

DCP (South) Atul Kumar Thakur said, “We received the complaint yesterday and are enquiring into it.” No FIR has been registered yet.

Another user wrote, "#BabaKaDhaba episode has a lesson. Don’t believe much in opaque intermediaries. Always prefer to donate by first hand. Hope that old couple will come out of it soon and get justice."

"Don’t really know who’s telling the truth but it doesn’t seem like the YouTuber intended to cheat baba... infact it was coz of him that ppl noticed baba n came forward to help. It will be better if the police investigate n bring out the truth," a user added.
