The new Telecommunications Act, 2023 on Thursday was implemented in India and it changed the SIM card laws and even gave massive power to the Central Government in case of national security. The Narendra Modi Government passed the Telecommunications Act, 2023 last year and it came into effect on June 26, 2024. The new law allows the government to take control and manage any or all telecommunications services or networks in the interest of national security, friendly relations with foreign states, or during a state of war. Apart from this, obtaining SIM cards through dishonest or fake documents can also result in a fine of up to Rs 50 lakh and three years in prison.

No Indian will be permitted to obtain more than nine SIM cards under the new regulations. On the other hand, residents of North-East states and Jammu and Kashmir will only be eligible for a maximum of six SIM cards. Now, the question arises how to check how many SIM cards are already there under your name? Below is a step-by-step guide to check SIM Card details with your name-

  1. First of all go to the portal tafcop.dgtelecom.gov.in.
  2. Enter your mobile number in the box here and log in with the help of OTP.
  3. Now the details of all the numbers that are running from your ID will come.
  4. If there is a number in the list that you do not know, then you can report it.
  5. For this, select the number and 'Not My Number'.
  6. Now click on the Report box at the bottom.
  7. After complaining, you are also given a ticket ID reference number.
  8. After this, that number will be closed or removed from your Aadhar card.

Under the new law, if a SIM is activated on your ID which you are not using, then you may have to suffer the consequences. For example, if wrong or illegal activities are being carried out using the SIM registered with your ID, then you will get into trouble. Therefore, it becomes very important for you to know how many SIMs are registered on your ID.
