The stage is all set for the auction of New Zealand's unique rotating house. Termed as an engineering marvel, New Zealand's rotating house is one of a kind better known as "the lighthouse". The lighthouse is up for sale in Auckland, New Zealand. New Zealand's rotating house is designed & built by engineer Don Dunick. Don Dunick has reportedly placed it on a two-meter-wide cylindrical steel base on the Maraetai hillside, allowing it to spin like a carousel. Below is everything you need to know about New Zealand's rotating home-
New Zealand's rotating house 'light house' explained
As per Dunick, the lighthouse takes 33 minutes to complete a full rotation, offering its residents the ability to "change the view, change the sun, and get out of or into the wind." Dunick further said, "If there is a storm coming at night [and] you don't want that on your bedroom windows, you turn it."
Don Dunick was quoted saying, "The advantage is that you can change the view, you can change the sun, you can get out of the wind or into the wind … If there is a storm coming at night [and] you don’t want that on your bedroom windows, you turn it. ..I was sitting there a few weeks ago and the sun came around and was in my TV, so I got up and turned the house."
Notably, Don Dunick and his colleagues took five years to design a system that ensured all the services such as water, electricity and sewage piping were independent and could rotate with the house as it moved – something the local council required before it would sign off on the build.
Currently, New Zealand rotating home is valued at just over NZ$1 million and will be sold through a tender process. As per NZ Herald, the rotating house is a three-bedroom property that was put on rent in 2016 for a staggering $675 (Rs. 34,390) per week.
