Later on, Chahal had informed the media that the attackers had claimed affiliation with the Baba Buddha Dal. Now, a video has surfaced in which the three nihangs could be seen giving their clarification on the attack.
“Whoever talks against the Panth and the sacrifices of the Sikh greats should keep control of their tongue, because as the idiom goes “a rogue tongue can lead to broken bones”” said one of the accused in the video. Thapar had also supported the influencer, Archana Makwana, who was in trouble for performing yoga at the golden temple. He had also put several posts on social media against the farmers’ movement. The Facebook page of Thapar, which has 6,600 followers, contains hundreds of posts against Khalistan.
“The Sikh community does not hold any enmity against any other community, but when there is continuous provocation, then action must be taken” the accused Nihang further clarified in the video.
Following the attack, Thapar was admitted to a civil hospital in critical condition and then referred to the DMC hospital. At the time of the attack, he was accompanied by his gunman who had not made any attempts to protect the Shiv Sena leader. Sandeep was reportedly going back after attending a memorial function of BJP leader Ravinder Arora at Samvedna Trust, located in the Civil Hospital. The vicious attack was caught on CCTV.
