On Wednesday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that the state will not have examinations for class 10 and 12 this academic session. This implies that students will be allowed to pass without having to appear for the state board examinations in 2021.
CM Mamta Banerjee said, “Due to the ongoing COVID pandemic situation, the state Education Department has decided that students currently studying in classes 10th and 12th will not have their examinations 2021.”
Mamta Banerjee said students will be allowed to just pass.
The West Bengal government is yet to take a decision regarding the reopening of schools in the state. The decision will be taken after Kali Puja "depending on the COVID-19 situation at that time".
Though the Union Education Ministry has allowed reopening of educational institutions across the country in a phased manner, the Bengal government is still uncertain about resuming physical classes in state-run schools due to the rising cases of coronavirus in the state.
On Tuesday, West Bengal recorded the highest single-day recovery of 4,415 COVID-19 patients, pushing the total number of recoveries to 3,72,265.
The death toll rose to 7,403 after 53 more people succumbed to the disease.
