Public display of affection and getting intimate in the public area is a big “no” in a conservative society like India. One such example is shown by the society in Mumbai’s Borivali, where the residents of the society put a board of “No Kissing Zone” at the gate. The pavement near the society was also painted with the text “No Kissing Zone.” The residents of the housing society have made it clear that there is no tolerance for public display of affection.
Reportedly, this step was taken by residents of Satyam Shivam Sundram society, after they regularly saw people engaging in intimate acts in the area every evening since the coronavirus-related lockdown was imposed.

Society Chairman Vinay Ansurkar, while talking to the media daily Mid-Day, highlighted the fact that society is not against the couple, it is against ‘vulgarity’ and said, “We are not against the couples, but we are against their antics. This was happening in front of our houses. Many children and elderly people live in society. The police were not taking any action, while there is a provision of punishment for doing 'obscene' acts in public places.”
One of the society members said, “We are not against couples and kissing but we can’t let the premises just outside our houses become a kissing zone. Initially, residents tried to explain this to couples, but when it became a regular spot we came up with the idea of this marking. Since the marking, couples are not seen here. Some people come here to take selfies. It has a psychological impact on them when they park, get down and see this marking.”

The members of the society also recorded such videos, as proof, to show them to the police but cops did not take any strict action. So, members of the society decided to put up the board by themselves.
