Amid increasing Coronavirus cases in the national capital, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said that Delhi will not go into lockdown again, following a meeting with top officials over a huge spike in coronavirus cases.
The state is witnessing a fourth covid wave and has seen a sharp jump in cases in the last few weeks.
"In the last few days, COVID 19 cases in Delhi have been rising. As many as 3,583 new cases have been reported in Delhi in the last 24 hours. This rise in cases now is the fourth wave," said Kejriwal.
"We are keeping a very close eye on the developments. The difference between the first few and the fourth wave is that lots are not getting treated in-home quarantine itself. For the time being there is no plan to implement a lockdown. Should there be a need in future, we will discuss with the people and make a necessary decision. But as of now, no lockdown," he said.
Assuring the people, he said, "We are taking all possible measures, there is no need to worry."
On Friday Kejriwal had held a meeting at his residence. Delhi health minister Satyendar Jain and other officials were present at the meeting. The meeting was called to prepare an action plan to fight the increase in the COVID-19 cases in Delhi.
Speaking on whether lockdown will be imposed in Delhi, the chief minister said, "There is no plan for lockdown. If such a need arises, will consult the people of Delhi first."
"We are focusing on the COVID19 vaccination, 71,000 vaccinations were done in Delhi yesterday," he further added.
The city had logged 1,819 cases a day before, making Thursday's jump a huge 53 per cent.
