Former TATA Chairman & Philanthropist Ratan Tata on late Wednesday night passed away at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai due to age-related complications. Noel Tata's name was among the front runners to be Tata's new Chairman. As per NDTV, Noel Tata, the half-brother of Ratan Tata, has been appointed chairman of Tata Trust, following a board meeting held on Friday in Mumbai.
Who is Noel Tata?
Noel Naval Tata is a 67-year-old businessman. He is the chairman of Trent and Tata Investment Corporation, the managing director of Tata International, and the vice chairman of Titan Company and Tata Steel. He is the half-brother of Ratan Tata and Jimmy Tata. He is the son of Naval Tata and Simone Tata. He is an Irish citizen.
He graduated from the University of Sussex and attended the International Executive Programme at INSEAD Business School in France. He married to Aloo Mistry, the daughter of Pallonji Mistry, who was the single largest shareholder in Tata Sons. He has three children Maya, Neville, and Leah Tata.
He started his career at Tata International. In 1999, he became the managing director of the Tata Group’s retail arm Trent which was founded by his mother Simone Tata. Following this, Noel got appointed as the director of Titan Industries and Voltas in 2003.
In the year 2011, Noel’s brother-in-law, Cyrus Mistry was announced as the successor of Ratan Tata but in 2016, he was removed and Ratan Tata took over as the chairman of the Tata Group. In 2022, Noel Tata was appointed as the vice chairman of Tata Steel.
Noel Tata's mother Simone Tata is a French-Swiss Catholic who is Ratan Tata's stepmother, and is currently chairman of Trent, Voltas, Tata Investment Corporation, and Tata International.
