The North Central Railway has fulfilled its promise of providing prompt and adequate medical facilities to the pilgrims and passengers visiting its stations in the city of Prayagraj during the Kumbh Mela 2019.
In anticipation of heavy footfall at the stations of Indian Railways located in Prayagraj particularlly at Allahabad Junction station, during the Kumbh Mela, as many as 80 additional doctors (MBBS and above) had been requisitioned by the North Central Railway Medical Department for looking after the pilgrims and passengers who needed medical attention.
For the first time, a six-bedded emergency health unit has been set up at the Allahabad Junction station with medical booths at all platforms and passenger enclosures at all stations of Prayagraj so that rapid and adequate medical attention could be provided to the passengers in a serious condition constituting an emergency, said by an official statement
Till January 22, doctors had successfully treated more than 15,500 patients at Allahabad Junction, Naini and Cheoki stations of NCR. Out of these 9,964 were treated on the main bathing day of Makar Sankranti and while 5,582 treated on Paush Poornima.
Most of these patients complained of fever and breathlessness, abdominal infections, Urinary Tract Infection, backache, cough and cold, the statement said.
Out of these 15,500 patients, 328 were diagnosed as 'serious' and were admitted at the 'Hospital Ward' specially set up at the station, and given emergency treatment thereby saving their lives.
